September’s first Xbox Game Pass wave is official, and it carries one very familiar name: Call of Duty: Black Ops Cold War, joining the catalogue on September 8 across PC, cloud and console tiers.

Ten Games Leave on September 15

The departures are the story this month. Two heavy hitters — Cyberpunk 2077 and Frostpunk 2 — are on their way out, alongside:

  • Commandos: Origins
  • Cricket 24
  • Dead Cells
  • Deep Rock Galactic Survivor
  • Mullet Madjack
  • Spiritfarer
  • Superliminal
  • Train Sim World 5

Tip: Anything leaving on the 15th can still be finished with a discount — Microsoft normally applies the standard leavers discount to titles in their final two weeks on the service.

What August Left Behind

August added more than 20 titles, including Resonance: A Plague Tale Legacy, MIO: Memories In Orbit, Ball X Pit, Grounded 2 and an open beta for Gears of War: E-Day. Microsoft also revived its Backwards Compatibility Program with the classic Xbox title Conker: Live and Reloaded.

“We’re committed to keeping games from four generations of Xbox playable for years to come,” said Xbox’s Jason Ronald. “As part of our 25th anniversary later this year, we’ll be rolling out new ways to play some of the most iconic games from our past.”

The Price Conversation

All of this lands against the backdrop of hardware price hikes: Microsoft recently confirmed a significant hike for Xbox Series X/S consoles in the UK and Europe, where a 512GB Xbox Series S that sold for £249.99 in May 2025 now costs £429.99 after two increases. Value on the subscription side is being argued loudly — which is exactly why a lineup headline like Black Ops Cold War matters.
